Dear BES Bobcat Families,
This week at BES, we continue to establish our daily routines—from moving safely through the halls, lunchroom, and recess, to building habits for learning in the classroom. I want to give a special shoutout to our preschool and kindergarten students, who are adapting so quickly to their new school! Hats off as well to parents using the drop-off and pick-up lines for learning the procedures and helping us keep everyone safe. We are becoming more efficient each week. This week we had 4 days where we were all in the building to hear the 4th graders lead us in the daily announcements and pledge of allegiance over the intercom. Our 4th graders rotate throughout the school year in groups of 2 and 3 to lead the school. It is a wonderful way to start our day and a great way for our students to get a public speaking opportunity. They do an amazing job!
At BES, we check reading and math skills for all students three times a year. This week, our youngest learners are spending a few minutes one-on-one with our reading and math specialists to show us what they know when we utilize the Acadience reading and math assessments. Meanwhile, our 3rd and 4th graders have begun taking their i-Ready reading and math assessments. Once testing is complete school-wide—which usually takes us through the end of October—we will send this information home to parents. These assessments not only help us tailor instruction to each student's needs, but they also allow teachers to identify grade-level trends and collaborate on instructional focus areas.
A big shoutout to Ms. Tracy for leading Walking Wednesdays! Every Wednesday from 7:30 to 7:45 AM, students can choose to walk laps around the lower track. They love this—easily 75% of students present during that time participate. It is a wonderful way to start the day!
I realize there has been some confusion during early morning car drop-off, specifically for families lining up before 7:35 AM. Please keep the parking lot entrance down to a single lane prior to 7:35 AM so staff members can get into the lot. We need access to this front lot because our back lot does not have enough room for all staff vehicles. At 7:35 AM, two lanes may form. I am sorry for an earlier post that was not clear and had the wrong ending time for that.

Dear BES Bobcat Families,
Thank you to all the families who attended our Open House events on Wednesday and Thursday! We truly appreciate everyone taking the time to visit the classrooms and explore the school. It was wonderful to come together as a community as we officially kick off the 2026-2027 school year.
This week, our BES Bobcats also honored the 25th anniversary of 9/11. On Wednesday, Ms. Krueger read This Very Tree by Sean Rubin to each grade level during lunch. This story shared how New York City was affected and began the healing process after 9/11, told through the perspective of a tree that survived and regrew after the Twin Towers fell. Today, the school gathered in front of our flagpole for morning announcements. Our 4th-grade readers led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, the entire 4th grade sang "God Bless America," and our students learned why the flag is flown at half-mast on certain days, honoring the memories of those lost with a moment of silence. The children were incredibly respectful and caring during this time—it was a true example of the consideration and collaboration of a school community at its finest

Thank you for visiting our estimation stop at Open House! We had hundreds of students participate and look forward to doing more school wide estimating challenges this year. The amounts and who got it correct were announced this morning during our morning assembly.
Attached at the end of this newsletter is a copy of the "Building Bobcat Mathematicians at Home" in case a hard copy did not make it home to you yet. This is an optional opportunity to engage in math at home with lots of choices and hands on ideas. Please use as appropriate for your student and your family. Any mathematician that wants to share a picture of math at home should email it to besmathdept@sau67nh.gov and we will display it on a bulletin board. More grade level specific math at home opportunities called Home Connections, (as well as a Welcome Letter summarizing the big ideas from each grade level's first unit of study) will be sent home via ALMA next week!

Thank you for everyone's patience as we work through our new routines for drop-off and pick-up. We are closely monitoring how everything is going during these first few weeks of school. While several aspects are already improving, we recognize that challenges still exist and appreciate your continued cooperation as we refine the process.
We celebrated a few traditional "firsts" this week! We held our first practice fire drill, which we have without the alarm sounding so our students can see where to follow their teachers this year. This approach also allows our Kindergarten and Preschool students to have a smooth, comfortable practice session first.
Today we gathered for our first school-wide assembly of the year, which featured a very special surprise! Slider, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats mascot, paid us a visit to present our school with a $1,000 check for placing among the top five schools in New Hampshire for the Fisher Cats Reading Challenge. Thank you to all the parents who turned in reading forms for students who read five books over the spring and summer. We hope you all enjoyed attending a game with the tickets you earned! We will be using the money to keep our school book vending machine stocked with fresh reads.
We will be honoring September 11 by having your children wear red, white, and blue. We will be holding a morning assembly around the flagpole to commemorate the day.
Please also keep in mind that local voting will be taking place at Bow Memorial School on Tuesday. Traffic will likely be affected, but the Bow Police Department will be on-site to direct vehicles and support traffic flow.
Tuesday is also our school picture day! We love seeing those smiles!

Our PTO is looking for volunteers for Open House. The Bow PTO will once again be selling pizza and water in the cafeteria. You can come to Open House and have dinner! The doors will open at 5:00 for Open House.

Save the date for the 5th Annual WickedSTEM expo from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 19 at SNHU in Manchester. Families from across New England are invited to participate in hands-on demos, robotics showcases, student-built innovations and more. Registration is open for the free event.
Calling all NH students ages 9-17! Train to be an astronaut, airplane pilot or robotics engineer in a five-day immersive, educational and fun space camp at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. The Alex Higgins Memorial Space Camp Scholarship is available; the application window opens on Sept. 19. Three New Hampshire students will be selected to go to space camp in Alabama in 2027.

I know we can all agree that the end of the day routine was a lot today.
At BES we debrief as a group when things don’t go as we would like. Melissa, Christina, Hannah, and Jess got together to work on solutions. There was a lot of confusion with the buses for getting children home to the right places. We have some action items for this.
In the office, we will make sure the kindergarten names are crossed off the list for tomorrow. It all prints out on the list the drivers get from us daily and our Kindergarten students start Monday.
We will work to have the drivers check their list more closely for questions when they arrive at school.
On PUP we had a good number of the wrong bus numbers. This happened when people put last year’s bus number in. Some routes have changed. We have made contact with most of you or will be tomorrow morning.
Another piece that is a huge help to the drivers is to put in PUP the address your child is going to. Sometimes this is different from your home address.
Finally, we do not leave young children at home without someone there to greet them unless you as a parent have put in okay to leave. This is particularly true for grades K-2. If that is okay with you please do so otherwise the children will be brought back to school if we can not reach you when the bus arrives.
I am eternally optimistic that tomorrow will go smoother. Buses and cars will get out of here in a more timely manner.
Thank you as always for your cooperation. We will continually monitor our changes in the first weeks of school and make adjustments as necessary for safety and efficiency. Safety will always be first.
Lastly, we do not know what happened to the text we tried to send about the combining of the buses. We will have our tech department take a look at that. I will not use the text method again. ParentSquare should solve that challenge🙂

Dear BES Families,
Please see a review of our new Drop Off and Pick Up routines. You will see a lot of us out there supporting this new routine. One thing I am sure is that in the first 2 weeks of school these routines will take longer until everyone is comfortable. The buses will take longer for pick up and drop off. Cars need to still wait prior to 7:35 as they always have prior to pulling into the parking lot. A staff member will wave the cars down. Please see the map for where to wait.
Although everyone loves first day of school pictures we ask that these be taken at home. The drop off line is not the safe and appropriate place to do so. This is true at the end of the day as well. We thank everyone for their patience in advance. All BES staff today had an opportunity to review in detail our plans for this time of day. Together we are collaborating on how to work together to make this safe and smooth.
Please see the attachment as a reminder of the importance of stopping for buses. It is against the law to pass a bus with the lights passing. The Bow Police Department is enforcing this. Our buses are equipped with cameras that will track vehicles that pass a bus when the lights are flashing red.

This routine was developed as we have spent time since last winter looking at making it safer for kids and adults. It is appreciated and expected that we will all work together on this new routine. This is the most challenging time of our day. The goal is always about safety. The children who get in and out of cars need all adult support to do so safely. If a grandparent or babysitter will be the regular person picking up or dropping off your child please share this with them.

If your student has already been at the middle school for at least a year you likely know what an important tool ALMA is. If you are new to middle school you will want to become familiar with how to use this tool effectively. ALMA is the best platform for keeping track of your student’s progress in his or her classes. My School Bucks:
SAU 67 uses “My School Bucks” as our payment system for our lunch program. I imagine that most of you will be familiar and comfortable with using this system, however if you are new to our SAU and want to use this platform for your student to purchase things from the cafeteria you will need to create an account. You can either sign into your account or create a new account using the link below:

Dear BES Families,
We have more information for you today as we get ready for students next Thursday. Along with the bus routes The district has a link for ease in our ability to answer Alma help questions to the Alma support through the district. This support is through our tech department. Elliot Anderson manages the Student Information Systems for the Bow School District.
At the end of week I will be sending the new route for Parent Drop Off and Pick Up. We have a video to help with this significant change in the procedure. You will find an attachment below that shares information on the new law regarding stopping for school buses. I encourage everyone to read it.

The BES teachers have been coming into school and setting up their classrooms. We are looking forward to seeing everyone next week as we build our school community for the coming school year. Please check out the offerings from Bow Rec for after school activities. Children are able to take a bus to the community center for these activities.

We hope everyone had a wonderful summer and is looking forward to a great 2026- 2027 school year! We certainly are!
A big thank you to everyone who has already completed the bus transportation questionnaire. We truly appreciate those parents who have taken the time to fill out the transportation form. It has really helped the Transportation Department refine routes and provided a more accurate depiction of pickup and drop-off times. The information you provided is extremely helpful and allows the transportation Department to plan routes and run our transportation system much more efficiently. For those families who haven't had time yet, if you could please take a few minutes to complete it, it would greatly help transportation run more efficiently.

When reviewing your students' transportation information, please pay close attention to both the route and the bus number. Some routes have been renumbered for this school year, even though the route itself may remain the same
Please take a moment to review the information before the first day of school so everyone knows which bus to look for.
