Dear Bobcat Families,
The launch of second grade’s Community Helpers unit brought a certified therapy dog and handler to BES, and a panel of twenty-five guest speakers. Students had the opportunity to choose four sessions to attend based on their interest and curiosity. Kudos to the second grade team, and a huge thank you to our guests, for providing this enriching experience.
Another highlight of the week was the third grade concert during which students delighted the audience with songs played on the recorder and “The Eye of the Tiger”!
Ms. Kephart’s Music Class There are so many amazing things happening in the music room! Kindergarteners are busy working on a steady beat, using their singing voices, and checking out all the different instruments we have. First graders are diving into musical opposites, using them to describe what they hear, and working on long and short sounds in rhythms. Second graders are getting hands on with Orff instruments, like xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels, learning to play different arrangements. Third graders are working through our Recorder Karate series and learning to read music on the treble clef staff. While in fourth grade, we are strumming chords on ukuleles with, reading music on both treble and bass clef, and tackling more complex rhythms. Every grade has either already performed a concert or is working hard toward their next performance!

Dear Bobcat Families,
The month of April offers an exciting perspective on our students' journeys. I am impressed by the growth - academically and socially - that our students are demonstrating throughout the school day including in our Unified Arts (UA) classrooms; these are essential spaces for our students to explore new interests, build specialized skills, and express themselves through hands on discovery and personalized learning. I will be shining a spotlight on each of our UA classes this month.
Mrs. Bryant's Art Studio
It's been an exciting time in Mrs. Bryant’s art studio as students explore clay and sculpture! Students in grades 2 - 4 have compared the different types of clay we use in the art room: plasticine, Crayola Model Magic, and kiln-fired clay. Our third and fourth graders have been working with kiln-fired clay - learning the entire process from building, firing, and glazing. Meanwhile, kindergarten and first grade students have created three dimensional sculptures using cardboard. Essential problem solving techniques went into building sturdy structures with the help of a "buddy” for support. Students showed their creativity by exploring various ways to embellish their sculptures with paper, paint, and collage items. First grade students also used other types of recycled materials for their creations. Bobcats in second grade are just beginning their clay unit now. It’s easy to see that the Sculpture Center is a favorite! Ask your student(s) what they’ve created, or plan to create, in art class!
Mrs. Tracy’s Physical Education (PE) Class and Walking Wednesdays Get ready to cheer…every single student in grades K-4 became a “golf superstar” during a three week unit! Students learned how to:
We can't wait for the field to dry out! As soon as it's ready, Bobcats will be back to running, jumping, and playing outside for PE on the track!
Goodbye, snow! Hello, sunshine and fresh air! Mrs.Tracy is so psyched to have brought back our super popular, school-wide "Walking Wednesdays" this week! Students can walk outside, every Wednesday from drop-off until 7:55 am, with the BES staff who join in. It's a fun choice activity for everyone to enjoy together!
April Menu Update from Abby Conway, BES Food Services Manager Please see menu changes for the last school week of April: Wed., 4/22 will be Corn Dogs, “Smiley fries”, pita and Sunbutter, animal crackers, and a 100% juice cup Thurs., 4/23 Dude Perfect Fit Games Fundraiser Day will be a bag lunch with mini french toast, graham treat, crunchy chickpeas, yogurt cup, and fruit of the day Fri., 4/24 will be “Crazy Ala Cart Day” with many different choices, 100% juice cup, fruit choice, and veggie choice
Have a fabulous weekend!

Upcoming BES Events - Gr. 3 concert: April 9 at 6 pm (BHS)
Bow PTO: Two Updates Dude Perfect Fit Games Fundraiser Here’s more about the fundraiser day at BES - to build momentum leading up to the space themed Dude Perfect Fit Games day, each grade level will watch a video at lunch during the week of 4/13. This year’s videos teach these positive attributes of citizenship: curiosity, courage, teamwork, resilience and humility.
On April 23rd, during the school day, each grade level will participate in game play for 35 minutes (every student will be credited for 35 minutes of activity).
To participate in the optional fundraising aspect of the day, here is a flyer that makes registering your student(s) easy. Once registered you will have access to a link to send to your family members and friends so that they can pledge to contribute a flat rate for the day or a per minute rate for your student(s)’ participation in the games. Families can continue to check the number of pledges made and the types of prizes students will automatically earn (including a prize simply for registering and many other prizes awarded for different incremental amounts of money pledged - this information is available when you register).
** PTO volunteers will distribute students’ prizes at school on various days; if you would like to volunteer in this way - please sign up here!
** Bonus Opportunity: The names of all students registered for the event by this coming Monday will be entered into a drawing for a gift card to Krazy Kids and a gift card to Altitude!
Rationale: fundraising is an integral part of allowing our PTO to continue to contribute to all three schools. This year alone, we have bought a book vending machine for the elementary school, sponsored chartered buses for the BHS prom, and are sponsoring a motivational speaker at the middle and high schools. The PTO will also provide the Kona Ice Truck on the evening of the fourth grade celebration. The PTO budgets about $10,000 a year for teacher reimbursements so that school staff members do not have to pay out of pocket for something they need - every staff member can submit for $100 of reimbursement each school year. Thank you for your support!

Hello Bobcat Families,
It’s been another great week, and it’s been fun to see the students enjoying warmer recesses outside. Kudos to three of our fourth graders who effectively used their persuasive advocacy skills to propose a new, self-managed offering for their grade level’s recess: Wiffle Ball. This undertaking involves managing the balls, bats and bases and organizing the game in a way that ensures students playing elsewhere stay out of the ball’s path. I was impressed by the students’ commitment to making this a success for the fourth graders who want this experience at school.
A huge round of applause for our Kindergarten stars! Their animal themed concert was a huge hit, and we couldn't be prouder of how they sang their hearts out last night at their concert.
If you’ve walked through our lobby this week, you might have spotted a massive box labeled "Book Vending Machine"! We are thrilled to have this newest addition to our school! It’s staying inside its box until our big school wide assembly reveal. We can’t wait for this new way to celebrate student achievements and foster a love for reading—stay tuned for more details soon.

Recess and Boots
The shift between warmer and colder temperatures have left a mix of snow and deep puddles on the playground and field. Recess duty staff highly recommend students have boots to get the most out of recess. The blacktop is becoming crowded and limiting opportunities for students without boots on to run and play outside.
Lost and Found
Speaking of boots - we have many items in our Lost and Found that will be donated during April Break. Please feel free to sign in at the office and reclaim missing things.
